Abstract

This chapter emphasizes on utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to implement device-to-device (D2D) network for user equipments (UEs). It discusses Third Generation Partnership Project activities for D2D and shows simulation results for throughput and packet error rates (PERs) between UAV and UE D2D link. D2D network discovery is a concept associated with gathering the contextual information for establishing the D2D links. The interplay between cellular users and D2D users to maintain reliable transmission can only be realized due to resource allocation and interference coordination. The power control schemes designed for D2D networks are being realigned to include the simultaneous wireless information and power transfer model to manage the interference as well as providing a solution for network longevity. The UAVs can take inspiration from the D2D networks to provide an efficient backhaul mechanism. The chapter evaluates the change in PER with change in interfering UAV power and altitude for different environment conditions.
