Abstract

Having divided this book into two broad thematic sections which focus on either physical education and lifestyle sports or sport coaching and lifestyle sports, this final chapter provides an overview of these sections through identifying avenues for future research and implications for practice. Following a short introduction to restate the principal aim of the book, each thematic section is concisely summarised to highlight key messages and emphasise the contribution the enclosed chapters make to the literature base on teaching and coaching lifestyle sports. The summary of each thematic section leads to an exploration into avenues for future research in terms of topic areas and potential methodological approaches, before turning the reader’s attention towards practical implications and recommendations at a micro, meso, and macro level. These suggestions are accompanied by three questions which hope to encourage critical reflection into the ‘steps forward’ needed to further enhance the process and practice of teaching and coaching lifestyle sports in the future.
