Many physiotherapists who work on call might feel uncertain whether they possess the skills and attributes required for this high-speed, complex environment. This service, like any other in the health service today, is subject to quality measures and standards. Clinical governance, as outlined in The New NHS: Modern, Dependable (DoH 1997), makes it clear that quality exists not only as a responsibility of the organization but also for each individual.
