This article is based on a study on alcohol consumption among Indian women. The available data on women alcoholics is scarce and veiled under the stereotypical image of the ‘righteous’ Indian woman. Indian society frowns upon women who drink, forcing them to remain closet drinkers. The participants of this research study comprised a total of ten women and two key informants. The study found that alcoholism among women is an emerging issue of concern and that there is a dearth of rehabilitation facilities exclusively catering to women. For a better understanding of the pattern, profile and nature of the problem, more studies in the field need to be encouraged.
