Abstract
This article uses the "lost" history of film and television trailers to reassess the 3-D aesthetic and its place in film history. By reconstructing and analyzing trailers from 1953 and 1954, which educated audiences about the competing 3-D technology, this article reveals a unique perspective on how film studios spoke to their audiences, positioned technology as a star attraction, and used 3-D as a potent weapon in Hollywood's attempt to revise the cinema screen of the 1950s.
