This chapter presents the practical case scenarios of student nurses on maternity ward. The ward has one midwife coordinating and two to three midwives per shift to care for the women on the ward. There are four maternity support workers who provide delegated care and also support for breastfeeding. The clinical educator has worked with the ward to plan the student rota and has supported the staff to develop collaborative ways of working. The duty rota for the first week has been supplied by the university placements team along with a link to the student welcome pack. NMC SSSA states that students should be empowered to be proactive and take responsibility for their learning and that learning should be tailored to the student stage of learning, focusing on outcome.
