Abstract

Both stylistics and translation are concerned with the fine linguistic detail of a text, and how it can be seen as a reflection of a writer's textual choices and as the source of effects upon readers. Since the work of Roman Jakobson in the 1920s, the study of style has often been closely linked with the study of translation. In this chapter, those links, and some of their consequences for both stylistics and translation studies, are examined.
