Abstract

This book reminded me of a leaflet I was given from a left-wing political student union in high school that said: “Saudi Arabia hatched the egg laid by the USA, thus the offspring of radicalism is born” (translated from Bengali). The reason for bringing in this analogy is to say that this book, by Shamila Ahmed, carries a critical yet accessible message for its readers, highlighting the need to scrutinise state crime and terrorism in order to comprehend the discourses of terrorism/counter-terrorism in a given context. Thus, this book will appeal to both academic and non-academic readers who want to understand the discourse of the “war on terror” (WOT) from a critical standpoint
