Abstract

This article on the methodology of dietary intake measurement describes the methods used to measure dietary intake. It details the reasons for using the different methods and the types of data that are available. Information on the processes involved in obtaining dietary data from the initial stages of using interviewers to coding the data are covered. Issues associated with potential measurement error in all the stages of dietary assessments are identified and the potential solutions of validation and calibration are detailed. This article concludes with identifying areas for future development in dietary assessment methodology.
