Abstract

A model combining data for climate, soil water retention characteristics and the seasonal water requirements of specific crops is used to calculate the frequency of irrigation need, in Norfolk, UK, the frequency with which supplementary irrigation is required to achieve maximum yields varies widely according to both crop and soil series.
