Abstract

The Fenland was a major centre of de luxe manuscript production in the first half of the eleventh century. This paper identifies Earnwig, later abbot of Peterborough, as the scribe of several illuminated gospels books and a Sacramentary, which he also illuminated, given to Robert, abbot of Jumieges.
