Abstract

Commissioned as part of the 2017 Hallowed Histories festival in Norwich, this public performance at The Garage in Norwich mixed live theatre with web-streaming in the reconstruction of 1940s live radio practice. Publicity materials; 'When we think of horror, we might typically think of great Gothic novels, late night horror movies or even extreme videogames. But horror has always extended its grasp much, much further… In this special evening of entertainment, you will have the rare chance to experience examples of historical horror performance that are as legendary as they are influential. As part of the Annual Norwich Hallowed Histories festival, a team from the UEA and city of Norwich will perform examples of horror radio in the tradition of golden age broadcasting with live sound effects, performers and musicians weaving total terror before your very ears! This will be devilishly partnered with a touring company from Loughborough University which will present a classic play from the repertoire of the Grand-Guignol, the unique, notorious and gruesome Theatre of Horror!'
