Abstract

In this new sequence, the sun’s restless, elemental energies find their way into a rural English parish, into the flesh and bones of the inhabitants, to unsettle, unnerve and excite in mysterious ways. There is a strong physicality to these poems, a connection to the world you might well expect from a writer such as Jos who works in the field of environmental literature. But there is also a sense of loss, of something embodied but at the same time elusive. SUN is Jos Smith’s latest pamphlet of poetry and follows his 2016 debut collection, Subterranea. SUN is printed on Mohawk Superfine papers from GF Smith and features a solargraph and pinhole photography image by Dave Wise.
