This 280-page book is the culmination of more than two decades of research into the relationship between social organisation, environment, and the physical landscape in early medieval England. It draws on a wide range both documentary and archaeological sources, and embodies the outcomes of a a number of major research projects headed by the author, including a recent AHRC-funded study of the landscape of medieval Northamptonshire.
