Abstract

Examines the impact of "environmental risk' on crop yields, the adoption of new techniques and technological diffusion. The term "environmental risk' refers to factors affecting the risks associated with alternative methods of crop production that vary between physical locations. In Bangladesh, one of the most important factors affecting farmers' decision making is the environment and it is expected ex-ante that farmers who live in natural disaster areas have to suffer greater crop losses than in other areas and hence ex-ante risk is much greater in those areas. Within any given environment, risk attitudes may differ among farmers. Examines demographic and socioeconomic factors which influence the way farmers respond to any given environment. -from Author
