This essay explores the reception of Joe Sacco’s Palestine over time, in order to understand its contribution to debates over Israel’s domination of Palestine. It draws on data and materials derived from the Nexis Press database as an index of public reception, and on reviews and commentaries from citizen reviewers for evidence of the kinds of criteria used by ordinary readers to understand and evaluate Sacco’s work.
