Abstract

Reaction of phenol (I) with trioxane (II) in the presence of a ferrocenium salt affords 4-tert-butylcalixarenes in a total amount of about 95%. As shown for compound (III) individual calix[4-9]arenes are isolated in 9—23% yield.
