Abstract

The 18th hole : Novel 18-membered zinc–nitrogen ring systems are readily accessible from the reaction of Me2NNH2 and R/R'Zn (R=R'=C6F5; R=R'=Ph; R=Et, R'=Cl) and subsequent work-up with acetonitrile. More forcing conditions are required in the case of R=R'=Et. The intriguing solid-state structures have been identified by X-ray crystallography using synchrotron radiation (see scheme), and these new complexes undergo hydrolysis to give acetamide hydrazones.
