Posture is a dynamic process that underpins movement and function. Appropriate positioning for children with a motor impairment, such as cerebral palsy, is essential. Careful assessment is needed to ensure the provision of the most appropriate piece of equipment to enable correct positioning. This article considers some of the factors that may cause postural control problems and their functional implications. It explores the basic process involved in assessing a child for appropriate equipment and provides an overview of the latest equipment on the market to enable supine, side lying, prone, sitting and standing positions.
