Abstract

Fatigue is a prevalent and disabling non-motor symptom in Parkinson’s disease, yet effective management strategies remain limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions targeting fatigue in people with Parkinson’s disease. Five randomised controlled trials (n = 270) were included. Exercise-based interventions demonstrated a significant reduction in fatigue, although with substantial heterogeneity, while acupuncture showed no significant effect compared with sham controls. The overall certainty of evidence ranged from low to moderate. Findings highlight the need for high-quality, adequately powered trials and support further exploration of multimodal and self-management approaches for fatigue in Parkinson’s disease.
