Abstract
This presentation describes a month long digital fast carried out by students in the School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology (CPP). This fast was proposed in response to research findings that there is a significant correlation between the use of smartphones (and online technologies such as social media) and the increasing cases of diagnosed mental health illnesses, loneliness and attention fragmentation. We will outline the structure of the fast which contained four key milestones: - Detach (Creating space and regaining a sense of presence) - Discover (Exploring what emerges in the newly created space) - Delight (Cultivating joy in the newfound space) - Determine (focus on solidifying lasting changes).
