Abstract

- When talking to people about their weight, consider the wider determinants and the context of overweight and obesity - Consider the differences when interpreting body mass index (BMI) for children and young people and those from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic family backgrounds - Waist to height ratio is a useful additional measure to BMI in predicting health risk associated with central adiposity - If a referral is declined, consider offering further opportunities for referral or re-referral in the future
