Abstract

This book aims to reclaim the cultural, symbolic, and territorial value of fire, demonstrating why its recognition is not only an act of historical justice but also an urgent necessity for designing fire management strategies that are more sensitive, context-specific, and sustainable, anchored in dialogue among science, policy, and Indigenous wisdom. Its content shows how deeply fire is rooted in the lives of communities in the Meseta Comiteca Tojolabal of Chiapa, Mexico, and how much local knowledge can contribute to appropriate fire management in the region.
