Abstract

This chapter starts by highlighting the experiences of people living with olfactory dysfunction, people living with both dementia and olfactory dysfunction, and of caregivers. There follows a brief outline of the anatomy of olfactory function, then sections on evidence for olfactory dysfunction and its general impact, the association between olfactory dysfunction and mild cognitive impairment/cognitive change and a range of different aetiologies of dementia. This is followed by further discussion about dementia-related impact, some study limitations to date and some helpful suggestions and a contact list for further information/advice.
