Abstract
The registration assessment for United Kingdom (UK) trainee pharmacists (GPhC, 2018) includes clinical scenario-based multiple choice questions (MCQs) where trainees need the confidence to select the most appropriate treatment option quickly. This study utilised a novel MCQ format in which confidence assessment is implicit in the answering process (students were never formally asked to report their confidence). This methodology was used for a series of formative clinical pharmacy MCQ assessments with the aim of gradually increasing trainee confidence in clinical decision making.
