Abstract

Throughout the history of GIS the raster-vector debate has been continuous and pervasive. In the early days especially, the raster and vector models were seen as competitive. More recently, they have been seen as complementary, particularly since the advent of raster-vector conversion algorithms and the calls for Integrated GIS. Today, sophisticated raster processing techniques are available either as stand-alone systems or within traditional vector-based GIS. -from Authors
