Abstract

Linear and non-linear stability analysis tools are used to reproduce the salient features of the experimental investigation into crossflow instability carried out in recent years at Arizona State University, including the delay of transition by means of distributed roughness elements. Linear tools are then used to carry out a simple parametric study to assess in outline the feasibility of the control scheme for other Reynolds and Mach numbers and for different pressure gradients. This last issue must wait for a systematic non-linear investigation for a complete answer. Estimates of potential transition delay are obtained across the parameter space.
