Abstract
Wassily Kandinsky's "Der Gelbe Klang" (The Yellow Sound), is a rarely performed piece of Avant Garde Modern Performance Art. Commisioned to be part of the Tate Modern's conference celebrating 100 years of The Blaue Reiter Almanac, our production was the first full attempt to stage this work in its entirety in Britain. I co-directed and designed all aspects of this performance.As an abstract piece of Modernism, the scenographic was as important as the performance of the actors, each aspect of the costume, sound, set and lights were conceived at the same time as the choreographic and vocal work of the performers producing a holistic work of installation performance.The performance was designed to work as a quasi-installation piece of theatre, the short run of action looped for several performances while audiences filed in, viewed the artwork and then filed out, emulating a gallery experience.
