Abstract

There is an ever rising demand for the measurement of vitamin D due to increased awareness of its involvement in not only calcium homeostasis, bone metabolism and neuromuscular functions but other medical conditions (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer and psychiatric disorders). Increasing numbers of laboratories are utilising Vitamin D immunoassays (≈84% on DEQAS) which has led to several favourable published comparisons – however the question arises: Are Vitamin D immunoassays fit for all ?
