A novel high temp. cell capable of measuring electrochem. signals up to temps. of 115° is reported. Characterization of the cell was undertaken by examg. 3 differing systems. First the voltammetric response of a range of simple redox systems in both aq. and nonaq. media was recorded to deduce the activation energies for diffusion of these mols. Next the steady state linear sweep voltammetric response of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine (TMPD) in DMSO is assessed as a means of studying an inferred structural change of the solvent at elevated temps. A change in the activation energy for diffusion from 13 kJ mol-1 to 27 kJ mol-1 was obsd. as the temp. was raised. Finally, the electrochem. catalyzed reaction of the radical cation TMPD+.bul. with ascorbic acid was studied from 25° to 107°; the corresponding kinetic parameters are deduced. [on SciFinder(R)]
