Abstract

This book analyses approaches to conducting educational doctoral research from a cross-cultural perspective. The author builds on theoretical approaches from the fields of academic literacy, post-colonial theory and comparative education to analyse ethnographic data collected from and with a group of international students. Through exploring the differing perspectives of supervisors and international students on the research process the book contributes directly to current debates on the internationalisation of higher education. The book has added to the field of academic literacy through expanding the analysis of academic writing, to include research practices around data collection and in a cross-cultural context. Since publication, the findings have been presented at workshops and networks concerned with improving the quality of higher education for international students in the UK. Refereed by the series editor (Harry Torrance), the book was also reviewed informally by all those involved in the research.
