Abstract
Knowledge translation requires effective dissemination, adoption, and, finally, implementation. These three stages are equally important; however, existing knowledge translation models and frameworks focus on adoption and implementation, generally providing little and disparate information about how to effectively disseminate. This chapter describes an evidence-based approach to disseminating research following the Guide to Disseminating Research (GuiDiR). GuiDiR is aimed at researchers, research funders, and practitioners; it outlines the following five core steps required for effective dissemination: Step 1:Identify target audience and dissemination partners Step 2:Engage with dissemination partners Step 3:Identify barriers and enablers to dissemination Step 4:Create dissemination messages Step 5:Disseminate and evaluate GuiDiR is novel in its explicit and comprehensive focus on the process of dissemination and should be used in combination with existing knowledge translation frameworks, which primarily focus on adoption and/or implementation.
