Abstract
Pressure has been used as a highly effective tuning parameter in the study of the many various phenomena found in the family of materials given by the formula MPX3, where M is a divalent transition metal, and X is sulphur or selenium. The use of pressure has been gaining prominence since the first pressure study was reported ten years ago, in 2016. Here, we present a review that collects the main results to come from pressure studies on the structural, magnetic, electronic, and superconducting properties of this diverse family of materials. We also highlight the areas where pressure could play a crucial role in addressing key remaining mysteries.
