Abstract

A novel method for the preparation of 9-aminomethylanthracene 1 has been developed by the use of ammonium salts in the reductive amination of the 9-formyl anthracene derivative 2, a reaction which has been examined with a variety of reducing agents, ammonium ion sources and solvents. The optimized reaction conditions allowed the isolation of fluorophore 1 in good yields.
