Abstract

Whilst the public faces [of development] … are a significant element of the politics of development, there has been relatively little systematic research in this area, nor has there been an attempt to begin to consolidate what work has already been done … Much of the academic and practitioner research in this area has been fragmented and remains unconnected, often due to different disciplinary bases.
