Abstract

In a recent paper, Thompson (1984a) derives a distribution function for monthly rainfall totals which has physically meaningful parameters. He states that this distribution function can be used for the assessment of the homogeneity of rainfall time series. An example from Auckland, New Zealand is given and correction factors derived in order to form a homogeneous series. The purpose of this comment is to demonstrate that the methodology presented has three basic flaws.
