Abstract

This chapter uses the methodology of discourse analysis and postcolonial theory and criticism to make a contribution to the field of pedagogy in the business and management classroom. It examines a selection of texts available in the general press (The Economist & Newsweek) and widely read by business and management communities around the world, through the application of the concepts of 'Knowing', 'Representation', 'Mimicry', 'Ambivalence' and 'Stereotype' from postcolonial theory. Its significance lies in its critique of dominant political and economic discourses and in its discussion of implications for practicing a critical, postdisciplinary pedagogy. The chapter was reviewed by the editor of the book and is significant in being one of a few publications explicitly devoted to the use of postcolonial perspectives in management education.
